Planting Seeds

Planting seeds that shall never grow
She tip toes stealthily up and down
Land that once belonged
Consumed by those who champion progress
Placing a finite ending to a life of toil
Leaving little for those who seek sustenance

Concrete laid upon fields of green
Dust clouds consuming all natural beauty
Thunderous noise outweighing serenity
Releasing poisons to settle on impending harvests
Suffocating in seconds her attempts to farm
Breaking the hand that feeds a nation

Unperturbed, her task continues
Fruitless yet necessary in an attempt to rebel
Unwilling to relinquish her efforts to succeed
Precious commodity paved into extinction
Inch by inch, receding towards oblivion
Saved only by futile endeavors to defy
