War Zone

The dawn rising gently, warming the earth
Sunbeams streaking through gaps in the drapes
Beginning of springtime seemingly pleasant
True revelations, an arms length away

The crack in the window so slight
Revealing an outright war zone
Mutilation, massacre and bloodshed
The animal world in action

Sound of the foxes as they corner their prey
Hawks streaking through the air like falling bombs
Crows attacking pigeons on rooftops
Ants by the thousand march to gather leftovers

Amongst all of the carnage is the tranquility
Chirping song birds playing their early morning sonata
Dogs barking in harmonic appreciation
Squirrels dropping nuts, echo like drum beats

An everyday wake up call for humanity
Rising to the sounds of nature at work
Listening with interest as the new day commences
Safely tucked up in a bed, with a roof over your head
